Clay Glazing With Ms.Oakes

Ms. Oakes came again.  She talked with us about the three things we were going to do.  The first was to observe different stages of clay.  Then we did an experiment to see what happened when each type of clay was put in water.  There was wet clay, green ware, bisque, glazed ware and finished ware.  Then she would teach us about using the glaze and then we would glaze our animals.   We picked a glaze color. We painted with glaze on our clay animals. She also showed us a picture of the he special oven the clay is cooked in.  Also known as a kiln.

Impact NW Puppeteers and Math Lesson

Today we had the puppeteers back from Impact NW.  The puppet show today was about kids who see other children being picked on at school.  At the end of the show the children were able to role play different scenarios with the miniature puppets.

Below you will see a few photos from today's math lesson.

Clay Art With Ms. Oakes

Today was the second day that Ms. Oakes came to work with us on our clay projects. Last week we just had some free time to explore the clay and get a feel for how to shape it.  We learned some different techniques like, pinching, coiling, making a slab.  We also learned that you can use regular household tools like forks, pencils and old gift cards to work with.  Today we were able to make out animals from the riparian habitat out of clay.  Keep your eye out for the finished project!
